Couple story

"He's from London, and I'm from Los Angeles. We were in a long distance relationship for a while, but that gave us an opportunity to travel - we'd meet up in different cities at first - Barcelona, Rome, NYC - until being in the same city and timezone made more practical sense for us (and our wallets, ha). I'm a writer and he's an artist, and we spent the last decade together growing and building our careers, which felt more important at the time than a ceremony. This year, we finally felt like we were in the right place and frame of mind to have a wedding on our own terms."
Wedding date: May 1st, 2022
Location: Venice, Italy

Did you have any particular inspiration or theme for your day? Was it an intimate or extravagant affair?

"It was a very intimate affair - just our parents and siblings. We always knew we wanted to have a small wedding, but  it was important for us to give our immediate family the space and time to get to know each other in a private setting. Being thousands of miles away from each other, they had never had an opportunity to meet, and bringing them all to Venice was a very meaningful way for us to honor them coming together. As for inspiration, Italy never ceases to be inspirational but we are both of Armenian descent and it was important for us to incorporate our heritage into our wedding. We were married at San Lazzaro Degli Armeni, an island in the Venetian lagoon which has been home to an Armenian monastery since 1717. It is a historic venue with a collection of artifacts and manuscripts and has preserved and cultivated Armenian culture for centuries, becoming even more significant during the many turbulent chapters of our history. Being in the church as the sun set with just our families present was extremely meaningful for us. Another culturally symbolic incorporation was fruits - our flowers and table settings included pomegranates, oranges, and kumquats. I knew I wanted to incorporate colour, so we chose orange for the warmth and vibrant tone it brought to the day."

Dress designer

"The dress was by Daughters of Simone, which is a bridal design company based in Fresno, California. It was made from head to toe crochet lace which made it heavy! But it was exactly the old world meets new world look I was going for. The Daughters of Simone team were also so helpful and accommodating. Their headquarters are in a 100-year-old home in a historic part of the city.  https://daughtersofsimone.com."

Why you chose Freya Rose shoes?

"When I saw the Jasmine boot, I immediately knew it was the shoe for me - a non-traditional stand out boot that was elegant, stylish and comfortable. Not to mention the swoon worthy pearl heel - which was fitting for a wedding near water. Besides the aesthetics, I had practical motivations too! With Italian cobblestone streets and getting on and off boats as a part of my day, I wanted a shoe that could carry me throughout the day and be sturdy enough for uneven streets and hard to navigate scenarios. I wanted something I could feel calm, comfortable and confident in. Needless to say, the Jasmine boot delivered."

Any advice for future brides

1) Do you: make sure your style is a true reflection of who you are, not necessarily what is expected of you.  2) Try to soak in the day as much as possible - it goes by so fast so don't let the little things get you down 3) Take as many of your own personal photos with family and friends as possible."

Do you have plans to re-wear your Freya Rose heels? And if so, how do you envision styling them?

"Absolutely, I think they'd look great with jeans and a classic beige or gray raincoat, or a cashmere wrap dress in the winter. I intend to get as much wear out of them as possible :)"
