Every year the first Monday in May, is a shining moment for celebrities and designers alike as they flock to the Met Gala for an evening of fashion and extravagance. This year's Met Gala 2022 theme was In America: An Anthology of Fashion. We saw actors, singers, models and a list-celebrities take to the red carpet in outfits that have been in the works for months. The standout looks were heavily inspired by Gilded Glamour and looked phenomenal on the famous steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
Here is a round-up of the best Met Gala looks this year and how we would style them with Freya Rose shoes and accessories!
Dressed in Louis Vuitton we loved seeing Chloe Grace Moretz dressed in a platinum overcoat and ruffled top creating a perfect blend of regency and androgyny with this look. A big talking point of Chloe Moretz's styling was her faux pixie cut which was actually a well concealed ponytail braid!
We styled this look with our infamous 'GiGi' chunky platform heels. A popular bridal shoe at Freya Rose doesn't mean you can only wear it down the aisle, it would work perfectly on the red carpet too. We loved how simple elements of the outfit were kept to really keep the attention on the statement jacket piece and so the mother of pearl block heel still has a modern and luxurious feel whilst matching with the outfit effortlessly. To tie together the mother of pearl block heels on the shoes and beautiful blue and grey hues of the Louis Vuitton jacket, we chose the 'Athena' Grey Clutch'. A true statement piece which catches light beautifully in your grasp - we can't help but imagine how it would look under the paparazzi's flashing lights.
A golden girl moment for Lizzo, wearing a Thom Browne gown which took over 22,000 hours to make. The black corseted dressed with a garter detail skirt was sexy and a refreshing take on the Met Gala’s theme with an amazing black and hand embroidered cape with golden vine detailing. The pièce de résistance for Lizzo’s look was her iconic flute which lead to an impromptu performance on the red carpet.
Gold and black are a match made in couture heaven and we couldn’t help but style this outfit with even more of a wow factor of this golden dream. To cascade down the carpet in style, we would opt for the ‘Rose In Bloom Noir’ a beautiful stiletto heel with a floral motif made out of hand-cut mother of pearl and set in opulent black resin, These amazing couture heels would match beautifully with the ‘Black and Gold Crystal Long Drops’, inspired by the silhouette of an open flower for an extra touch of flowery glitz and sparkle.
Laura Harrier looked stunning down the red carpet in a silver and black ball gown - She told Vanity Fair "I wanted to feel very feminine and romantic by leaning into that age and era while still keeping it modern and cool," which we think was done so elegantly. The dress was in-fact from H&M, whilst they are a high-street brand, the designers made a one-of-a-kind gown for Laura to impress.
We love the modern feel to this look and would pair them with our favourite couture boots 'Mineko'. A black suede ankle boot with hand-cut iridescent ivory mother of pearl floral detailing on the block heel for comfort with ultimate style. To add some edge without sacrificing on glamour, we would accessorise this look with the 'Athena Ivory' clutch - made from genuine mother of pearl pieces that have been handcrafted to create this sumptuous pearly bag.
Immaculately styled Gemma Chan was the epitome, not only of Gilded Glamour, but gorgeous sophistication. Dressed in a Louis Vuitton Archival look, Gemma Chan wore a black and silver embroidered cape and gown with a structured bodice and box skirt.
'Glory' is a trusted shoe to strut down the red carpet with, as we have seen this shimmering silver low block heel sandal worn by Naama Preis at the Cannes Film Festival. The sterling silver and mother of pearl create a beautiful floral mosaic design with varying tones of grey, blue and ivory pearl. Matched with our 'Silver Crystal Long Drops', the glistening crystals have beautiful movement and a sparkling elegance about them.
Anitta chose Moschino as her designer of choice for the Met Gala 2022. Moschino designed a custom purple duchesse satin off the shoulder gown for Anitta which blew us away with fun draped pearl detailing around the bust and shoulders of the gown.
This look styled with Freya Rose, we chose the feminine 'Fefe Duchess' satin barely-there sandal heels which have beautifully handmade freshwater pearl and swarovski crystal embellishment. These ivory satin open-toe heels are effortlessly elegant much like Anitta's styling. In continuation of the luxurious pearl embellishment, we would add 'Baroque Pearl Long Drops' for a long drop earring to match the Moschino gown details. Featuring hand-strung seed pearls and baroque pearls to create a unique tassel earring and movement, they are the perfect statement accessory.
A much anticipated guest, making her 10th Met Gala appearance, was Blake Lively and her outfit did not disappoint but we expected nothing less from the star! Looking like a true Met Gala queen, Blake Lively was dressed in a Versace Atelier rose gold gown adorned with intricate geometric mirror designs. The spectacular dress also included an oversized bow wrapped around her waist which untied and doubled as a turquoise train.
For a look as grand and regal as this, we chose the obvious maximalist heels for cascading height 'Freya'. Blake Lively's look was heavily inspired by New York and the Statue of Liberty, and these stilettos in sumptuous shimmering ivory suede stand just as tall as the American landmark. Featuring a jewelled heel using hand-cut iridescent ivory mother of pearl, accessorised with 'Pearly Drop Hoops' ties in the timeless pearl and class of this styling. These unique 22ct rose gold hoops with seed pearls are delicate and match effortlessly with the Versace rose gold gown.
Supermodel Kendall Jenner, not only turned heads with her new bleached eyebrows but her extravagant red carpet look. Dressed in Prada, Kendall Jenner wore a custom black tulle Prada top with floral embroidered finish to the Met Gala, paired with a voluminous black silk-satin skirt that had oversized ruching. This Prada look was perfectly on theme, whilst providing a contemporary twist to the Gilded Glamour brief.
To match the fashionable edge of this outfit, we would pair the black silk-satin two piece attire with our infamous 'Jasmine White'. An ivory white soft leather ankle boot with a stunning block heel - a statement heel adorned with hand inlaid mother of pearl and polished brass. Paired with 'Hakuro Grey Long Drops', a pair of half moon grey mother of pearl with delicate pearl drop earrings on a delicate tassel chain. These earrings are subtle and contemporary that make the perfect statement accessory for an evening occasion or soiree.
Another incredible Moschino look, created by designer Jeremy Scott, Madelaine Petsch was transformed into a true 'golden girl' at the Met Gala this year. Dressed in an exqusitie canary-gold gown with a mermaid hem and oversized puff sleeves, we loved seeing this look on the Riverdale star.
We would love to pair the gold-leaf floral print with our couture shoes 'Rozu'. An open-toe sandal adorned with mother of pearl and a polished brass flower design hand in-laid onto the block heel. To accentuate the natural of this look, opt for the 'Mini Hoops with Detachable Pearls Combo' for a gold mini hoop featuring a cluster of freshwater pearls and baroque pearls for an organic and feminine earring.
