Our Pearl Heels are made through a series of highly skilled processes, many of which cannot simply be automated or replicated at volume. Each element requires patience, precision and an experienced hand. From selecting and preparing the mother of pearl to shaping, cutting, polishing and carefully setting each individual piece, the making of a single heel is a story in itself.

Mother of pearl has been at the heart of Freya Rose since the very beginning. We source it locally in Indonesia through our trusted production partners, working with craftspeople whose techniques have been developed and passed down through generations.

It is this relationship between designer, material and maker that gives each pair its distinctive character.

The Art Behind 50 Pairs

The number 50 is not a marketing decision. It is a reflection of the time and skill required to create each style.

Every piece of mother of pearl has its own natural pattern, colour variation and character. It must be worked with rather than treated as a uniform material. The craftspeople we collaborate with understand how to read these natural qualities, selecting and positioning pieces so that the finished design feels balanced and considered.

The process involves intricate handwork, with components shaped and finished individually before being brought together within the final design. There is a level of care involved that simply cannot be rushed.

And that is why, for each style, we limit production to 50 pairs a year.
