The Freya Rose London Story:
Freya's journey is a testament to her strength in passion, authenticity, and ethical values. Founded over a decade ago, Freya Rose London began as a passion-filled venture with Freya's vision to combine her personal love for footwear design with fine jewellery. Whilst travelling to find craftspeople that could bring her dream to life, Freya met a small team of jewellers who together developed an innovative artistry that incorporated Mother of Pearl onto heels. Since our founding year, our art-form still remains completely unique to Freya Rose and our innovative and beautiful use of Mother of Pearl has become the hallmark of our brand.
Supporting artisanal craftsmanship is a founding principle of Freya Rose London. Each Freya Rose piece is meticulously handcrafted; the intricacy behind each design is a testament to the dedication, beauty, quality, and authenticity of our artisans honed skills. Our designer wedding shoes, pearl heels and womens jewellery are not just accessories, they're wearable works of art. As a visionary, Freya loves to push the boundaries of design and is passionate about looking for ways to reimagine ancestral techniques in a contemporary way - with hopes to bring new life to fading art-forms.
Over the last decade Freya has proudly worked beside the same production team in Spain (where our shoes are handmade) and jewellers in Bali (where our jewellery and jewelled pearl heels are handcrafted). In a fast, modern world where globalisation degrades ancient practices, and often exploits those involved in the process, we believe its essential to use our voice for positive influence and encourage our community to invest in quality design, craftsmanship and product that is made to last; the antithesis of fast-fashion.
The magic of mother of pearl doesn't stop at our exclusive pearl shoes; it extends to exquisite pearl earrings, pearl bags, and wedding jewellery. Every piece of jewellery is handcrafted all across Indonesia by families rather than factories. Each artisan possess' unique indigenous skills from their particular region that have been passed down through generations. We hope that by designing with this in mind we are able to help preserve the skills and talent that have been the heart and spirit of many communities.
Ethical Practice and Labor Rights:
In addition to traditional craftsmanship we have always championed our commitment to ethical practices and labor rights. Freya first wrote about the importance of the fair and ethical treatment of indigenous people and the preservation of traditional skills in her university dissertation which assisted her in gaining a 1st class honours degree from the London College of Fashion in 2003. In a world where mass production often sacrifices quality and ethics, we proudly stand against the tide; our intimate team work hard to implement as many small, but meaningful changes across the business.
Ethically Sourced Materials:
Our signature Mother of Pearl is ethically sourced from cultured pearls. Cultured pearls are formed when a skilled technician implants a nucleus into a mollusk, stimulating the secretion of nacre, a lustrous substance. Over time, layers of nacre accumulate, resulting in a beautiful, sustainable alternative to natural pearls in various shapes and sizes.
All our leathers are sourced by a reliable family run business that run our production in Spain. They work closely with local farmers and small tanneries to source our leathers. Not many know the production of a pair of shoes uses around 130 components. The supply chain behind a single pair of shoes is incredibly complex, however the main perplexity is tied to he nature of a pair of shoes; due to their natural wear and irrefutable life cycle its a huge question whether footwear can ever be truly sustainable - this is something we are trying to confront.
As a business we’re always striving to develop and grow sustainably. Currently we are addressing the complicated and controversial challenges that natural materials vs vegan alternatives propose and there'll always be more that can be done. Our philosophy - focusing on creating quality, timeless designs to last a lifetime is so important because it fights against disposable fast-fashion culture so prevalent in todays world.
With every purchase you make, we implore you to consider that your style is not just a form of self expression in appearance - it's a reflection of your values too.
In every pearl, every stitch, and every step, Freya Rose London tells a story of passion, beauty, and authenticity; reflecting your choice to support a commitment to ethical practices, and appreciation for genuine craftsmanship.
