It was in Bali that Freya’s path became defined by something greater than design alone. There, she discovered a family of master artisans whose knowledge of working with mother of pearl had been passed down through generations. Their skill was not learned in schools but inherited — absorbed through years of sitting beside elders, watching and listening. These were craftsmen who carved with intuition, shaping natural shell as if revealing its soul.

Freya knew instantly that she wanted to work with them — not just to bring something beautiful to life, but to protect and uplift a way of making that was slowly being eroded by globalisation and fast fashion. Since then, we have worked exclusively with this family, honouring their heritage by ensuring that our most iconic designs are entirely handcrafted by their expert hands.

Mother of pearl has become our brand’s signature not simply because it is exquisite — though its iridescence, depth and organic beauty are truly unmatched — but because it carries a narrative. Each shell is carefully selected and hand-cut, its surface shaped and polished with the utmost care, then inlaid with brass or silver to form the jewelled heels and details that distinguish our designs.
